New Contractor for Thames Water

Thames Water appoints Morrison Utility Services for South London and Thames Valley AMP7 infrastructure Capital Programme

Morrison Utility Services (MUS), the UK’s largest dedicated utility service provider and part of M Group Services, has been awarded two major geographic Lots to deliver water and wastewater infrastructure (network) projects in South London and The Thames Valley in support of Thames Water’s AMP7/AMP8 Infrastructure Capital Programme.

Under the terms of the agreement, Morrison Utility Services has been appointed as the primary contractor for Lot 6 (Infrastructure South London) and Lot 7 (Infrastructure Thames Valley). The estimated collective value of the two Lots during AMP7 is £330 million.

The initial duration of the framework agreement for both Lots will be five years to complement Thames Water’s AMP7 delivery period (April 2020 – March 2025), with the option to extend for a maximum further five years in line with the 2025-2030 AMP8 regulatory period.

The scope of the Infrastructure (water and wastewater) Capital Programme for both Lots includes:

  • Water distribution mains replacement
  • New or refurbished pumping stations
  • New and replacement water trunk mains
  • Water pressure management activities
  • Inspection and maintenance of aqueducts, bridges and tunnels
  • New and replacement waste rising mains
  • Survey, rehabilitation and replacement of sewers near and crossing rail
  • Gravity solutions to maintain asset health and accommodate growth together with pipe bridge inspections

Thames Water Capital Delivery Director John Bentley commented: “We are pleased to again be working with Morrison Utility Services, a company with whom we have developed a great working relationship over a number of years. Together we plan to deliver an ambitious and progressive programme of works in our water and wastewater networks across South London and the Thames Valley.”

Morrison Utility Services Executive Director, Lawrence Summers, commented: “’I am absolutely delighted that Thames Water have chosen us to be the primary contractor for the delivery of their Infrastructure Capital Programme in both South London and The Thames Valley for AMP7 and beyond. We look forward to building on the excellent relationship that we have established over more than twenty years working for Thames Water. Working collaboratively, I am confident we will achieve world class health and safety performance, whilst successfully delivering a varied mix of water and wastewater capital projects.”

Morrison Utility Services Contract Director, Kevin Parcell added: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded the primary contractor positions in both South London and Thames Valley, giving us the opportunity to expand our long-term partnership with Thames Water. We will continue to work closely and collaboratively with Thames Water and we look forward to being part of this next chapter.”

Earlier this year, Morrison Utility Services extended its long-term partnership with Thames Water after being awarded a place on Lot 2 – Infrastructure on the AMP7 Capital Programme Thames Wide Framework, covering works that span water and wastewater infrastructure (network) and assets across Thames Water’s operational region.

With an estimated overall value of £170 million, the Lot 2 programme of works will be awarded to the successful contractors on a package by package basis and includes the rehabilitation and replacement of potable and waste water pipelines through to the inspection and maintenance of pumping assets, aqueducts and tunnels and supporting more complex emergency projects.
