Pier UK Ltd is a key client of MTS which from 2008 h-as grown in size to become what is believed to be Europe’s, and possibly the world’s largest provider of suction excavation equipment in the operated rental sector. In the 12 years since taking its original units, Pier UK’s Managing Director, Sean Quin has continually invested in equipment to meet the growing demand for the equipment and now has a fleet of in excess of fifty units. The fleet, predominately made up of MTS DINO equipment, ranges from small twin-axle city equipment through to 3-axle and 4-axle larger high performance units as well as the UK’s only DINO4.5 Tracked Suction System for All Terrain applications in more geographically challenging locations.
Sean was exceptionally pleased to take delivery of his latest unit with the serial number SB1000 especially and to mark the occasion MTS arranged to have the unit specially wrapped in Gold to highlight not only the 1000th MTS unit but also the commitment of Pier UK to Operated Suction Excavation Rental in offering a Gold Service to the industry.
SB1000 is a workhorse unit based on a Scania G450 6×4 chassis with an XT cab and features twin 900 mm fans, full hydraulic power hose boom, 8 bar@4.5 m3/min air compressor. The latest Seimens touch screen technology is used in the main control cabinet highlighting all main functions and diagnostics in plain English which also allows remote access via mobile networks. The equipment also benefits from the MTS patented cyclonic air filtration system with in-line automatic multi-jet air blast filter cleaning enabling maximum air flow performance to be maintained throughout operations, eliminating the need for manual filter cleaning prior to spoil tipping.
Also with Pier UK is the ‘All-Terrain’ DINO Suction System. Designed specifically for suction works in difficult access sites and locations, the equipment benefits from the market leading performance of MTS Twin Fan power and air movement but in a configuration, that can access locations that traditional truck chassis mounted equipment cannot.
The MTS equipment and engine are fully enclosed with the machine house, fans and compressor common to the other tried and tested equipment in the standard DINO range, as is the intermediate gearbox that transfers drive from the engine to the fans. Once started all major functions are radio or cable remote controlled by the operator including fan and compressor operation, boom movement and positioning of the equipment via the tracked drive unit.
The equipment features twin 900 mm turbines for air movement/suction, an on-board compressor for air tools and air-knives, a side tipping 4.5 m3 spoil hopper, and a telescopic hydraulic hose boom.
